Was Robert E. Lee really that good a general, or were his opponents that bad?

Which is what any good general would do. I think that his failure came more from the limitations of the South in fighting such a war (while Grant was quite willing to use new technologies of weapons and logistics). The South hadn't the factories, etc., to keep up with a war. They were fighting to keep their agrarian lifestyle. Oops.
